When you have to deal with complex pedigrees, printing can become as complex as the family but not with PedigreeXP! Thanks to a smart printing engine, printing is easy and customizable.

To customize the printing area, right click on the Pedigree drawing and choose “Set print area”.

What you can customize:

• Divide the pedigree into several pages and change their size. You can move the print area by dragging the horizontal or vertical lines with the mouse. Moving the print area increases or decreases the amount of pages to be printed.
• Choose the page layout: you can set whether you want to perform the printing in landscape or portrait mode by clicking on the arrow (displayed in the middle of each page).
• Select only the pages you want to print: with complex and large pedigrees there might be parts of the drawing that are unnecessary to print. To deselect pages, untick the box in the middle of the page that should not be printed. The page will turn grey.

When you are satisfied with your print layout, click on the print icon in the upper left navigation section, a print preview opens and a toolbar enables you to:

• Zoom to page width or height
• Flip through the pages to make sure you are satisfied with their layout.
• Click on the print icon from the toolbar to print

In addition:

• Export the pedigree as PDF
• Copy the pedigree to Clipboard as an image
• Copy the pedigree data to Clipboard

To print simpler pedigrees, it is possible to print directly from the navigation window (top left corner) or from the properties panel. PedigreeXP will optimize the printing layout of your pedigree drawing and print all pages directly.

With PedigreeXP, detect at a glance the X-linked disease carrier females. Refine the diagnosis to inform the family about the risks for their descendants.

PedigreeXP has a feature for automatic detection of carrier females when the X-rules setting is applied. The feature can be switched on in the properties panel: Apply X rules.

X-linked recessive traits are not clinically manifested when there is a normal copy of the gene. The X-chromosome is always transmitted from an affected father to his daughter and PedigreeXP can therefore help the users by automatically marking them as carriers.

A carrier mother who has a mutation in a gene on the X chromosome can transmit the X chromosome with this mutation to her children. PedigreeXP will help the user by applying a suspicion to the children until more information can be entered.

When it comes to complex family tree, PedigreeXP is your best ally. With just a few clicks, easily draw complex and multiple relationships spanning over generations, to better visualize the family history and the risks that may result.

To begin, you should always start with linking two persons as “Spouse” as the default relationship type is set to “marriage”.

To do so, select a member and the hint with the relationship type “Spouse” will appear. Click on the “+Spouse” button and a spouse icon will automatically be added.

Then, you will be able to add the relationship type: marriage, concubinage, divorce, separation, consanguinity. To do so, select two people at the same time by a “click and drag” with the mouse. You can also select two people by holding the “Shift” key and clicking on the icons at the same time. Both persons are now selected as they are highlighted with a blue square. Mouse over one of the icons to open the hint which displays the available family connections.

Click on the icon that represents the relationship type you need.

To remove a family relationship, simply click on the “- Spouse” button.

It is also possible to manage the relationship type setting from the data entry panel on the right side of the tree.

In October 2015, PC PAL attended two major events in Genetics in the USA and they would like to thank everyone that stopped by and took some time to meet with them and discover PedigreeXP, their fast and intuitive pedigree drawing and managing software.

What a pleasure to see how people are interested in PedigreeXP and that our product really meets their expectations.

Among PedigreeXP features, the followings were particularly appreciated:

• Import and export of files in specific formats: what a gain in time when you import your file and pedigrees are drawn automatically in the application in seconds.
• Shades and colors to indicate diseases: it indeed represents a real plus when you can visualize things faster or when printing in black and white.
• Managing complex family pedigrees was also mentioned: PedigreeXP was developed so complex relationships are easy to draw and to identify.

Of course, we also paid attention to your ideas, those are precious impulses to keep on improving the tool to match the needs of as many people as possible.

The use of a pedigree should be able to help their user to find answers to all case studies. Consanguineous relationships are one of those.

Below is a focus on how to create consanguineous relationships with PedigreeXP:

How to add consanguineous relationships 1

Use the mouse/cursor to click and drag to multi-select the two persons that you want to marry. If you don’t know how to do it, press ‘Shift’ key while clicking at the two persons at the same time.
You can see both persons are selected as they are highlighted with a blue square. Point the mouse/cursor to one of the highlighted persons without clicking.
You’ll see Spouse + option appearing below. Click on the + button next to Spouse: a double line will be added automatically.

If you need to manually set a couple as consanguineous without specifying how they are related, simply select the couple by using click and drag or ‘Shift’ and click as mentioned above.
Point the mouse/cursor to one of them, click on the double line option on the right side to set consanguinity.
